Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) Levies
- Employee Contribution:
Employees contribute to the ACC through a levy that is included in their income tax. The ACC provides comprehensive, no-fault personal injury cover for all residents and visitors to New Zealand. It covers costs associated with recovery from injuries, including medical expenses and support during periods of inability to work.
- Employer Contribution:
Employers pay an ACC levy based on their total payroll, the type of industry, and their history of claims with the ACC. This levy supports the same coverage as the employee's contribution.
KiwiSaver Contributions
- Employee Contribution:
KiwiSaver is a voluntary, work-based savings scheme aimed at aiding long-term retirement savings. Employees can opt to contribute a certain percentage of their gross salary to their KiwiSaver account, which accrues over time for their retirement.
- Employer Contribution:
Employers also contribute to their employees' KiwiSaver accounts, enhancing their retirement savings. These contributions are subject to specific conditions and thresholds.
Superannuation Fund
- Employer Contribution:
Some employers may contribute to a superannuation fund on behalf of their employees, which is another form of retirement saving. Unlike KiwiSaver, these contributions are additional benefits and are not mandated by law.
These social security measures demonstrate New Zealand's commitment to supporting the welfare of its workforce, from providing immediate assistance in case of injuries to aiding in retirement planning.
