After School Clubs

After school club expenses refer to fees paid towards after school clubs, before school (breakfast) clubs and holiday play schemes.

After school club expenses in detail

After school clubs and breakfast clubs are ideal for working parents. In these clubs, children are with other kids of their age group and can participate in fun activities and games. After-school clubs may be managed either by schools or voluntary and private organizations.

If a club serves children below the age of 8 for more than 2 hours, it should be registered and should be managed by certified playworkers. Also, Ofsted will inspect the club regularly. As of 2014, the cost of an after school club for 15 hours every week is in the range of £45 to £52.

Example 1:

Skool Kidz, Bath, has after-school clubs in multiple locations like Larkhall, Bathampton, Batwhick, and Bathford. During term-time, the clubs provide a free pick up from schools. The clubs offer nutritional snacks and a variety of fun activities. The club in Bathampton charges £9.5 to 10 per session, with each session lasting nearly 3 hours (3:15 PM to 6:30 PM). This rate means a per hour cost of nearly £2.84 to £3.07. At its Larkhall location, Skool Kidz has a breakfast club from 7:45 AM to 8:45 AM at a cost of £4.5 per session.

Skool Kidz also has holiday clubs at three locations in Bath. The clubs offers trip outs, tea, and fun activities to kids during holidays. Timings of holiday clubs at all three locations are from 8:15 AM to 6:15 PM. Inclusive of trips and tea, a day in the holiday club costs £25.50 to £27.50.

Example 2:

Energy Kidz has breakfast and after school clubs in different locations. They provide a place where kids can have fun and be safe while their parents are at work. They have several activities such as art, crafts, sports, and different types of toys and games. Children have the option of playing either in the indoor or outdoor area.

The Energy Kidz club in Crowthorne starts when school timings end and runs until 6 PM. A regular booking costs £11.00 for the first child and £10.50 for a sibling. The cost of an ad hoc booking is £11.50. This cost includes snacks such as sandwiches, wraps or pitta bread with meat, cheese, chicken, tuna mayo, honey or jam. Also included are a minimum of two vegetables and two fruits every day.

After school club costs are part of the household budget

If both you and your spouse are working, then an after-school club can be a good option for you. The expenses may be the same as hiring a childminder, but a key advantage is that the kids get time to play and interact with other kids.
